A Clinical Apothecary
What is Oficinale?
Oficinale is a clinical apothecary. We rebuild proven essentials one at a time, each co-founded and co-formulated with our board-certified dermatologist, Dr. Adarsh Vijay Mudgil. We open with le·balme.
What does Oficinale mean?
Oficinale (oh-fee-see-NAH-leh) comes from officinalis, the old botanical mark for plants of proven benefit, the ones the apothecary kept because they worked. It’s our standard: proof over hype, essentials over excess, every formula dermatologist-tested and clinically grounded, with nothing that doesn’t earn its place.
About le·balme, our first product
What is le·balme?
Our first product, and the reason the house exists. le·balme is the final step your routine has been missing. Purified pharmaceutical-grade petrolatum seals everything you already use in, while ceramides, niacinamide, squalane, hyaluronic acid, and peptides go to work underneath. One tube, over 100 uses.
How do I use le·balme?
As your final skincare PM step + use all day, every day. Final step: cleanse, treat, moisturize the way you already do. Then apply a small amount of le·balme to your face, neck, under eyes, wherever it’s most needed. All day, every day: lips, cuticles, flyaways, dry patches, baby, friend, all the places, all the people, all the things.
Is it safe, and is petrolatum safe?
Yes on both. le·balme is fragrance-free, non-comedogenic, and dermatologist co-formulated, safe on lips, babies, irritated and post-procedure skin, and every spot in between. And properly refined petrolatum is non-comedogenic, hypoallergenic, and FDA-recognized as a skin protectant, one of the most studied, most trusted occlusives in dermatology. le·balme uses pharmaceutical-grade petrolatum as its base.
What’s in it?
Pharmaceutical-grade petrolatum is the shield. The treatment layer: squalane with coconut and avocado oils for emollient hydration; Ceramide NP, niacinamide, and hyaluronic acid to reinforce the skin barrier, brighten, and plump; and advanced peptides (Acetyl Hexapeptide-8 + Nonapeptide-1) for firmness and smoothness over time. Fragrance-free. Dermatologist co-formulated.
How does le·balme compare to other petroleum jelly alternatives?
In comparison:
- Traditional petroleum jellies: great at sealing in moisture, not much beyond that.
- Plant-based alternatives: often positioned as “cleaner” but do not create the same strong barrier. Not used by dermatologists or considered the gold standard.
- le·balme: both a seal and a treatment.
le·balme combines the proven sealing power of pharmaceutical-grade petrolatum with skincare ingredients like Ceramide NP, niacinamide, hyaluronic acid, squalane, and advanced peptides to help support and nourish the skin barrier, all in a dermatologist co-formulated, fragrance-free formula.
